I have no idea what graybacks means, but for some reason I think it has to do with money, although that may be completely wrong.

I also would have to agree with you. graybacks reminds me of greenbacks, which is what money was called in a certain period of time.

ReplyDeleteI looked this word up and read more into the context of it in the book and I think it means lice or a type of bug..
