Bindle sounds like Bundle so I agree with your thought that it holds something, I think it might have to do with a bag of some sort.
I agree. I think bindle is just an old fashioned word for a bundle or a backpack.
yeah it sounds like those carrying things that people use in pictures "stick with a cloth of some sort at the end" i hope that makes sense
