Brittle

" I'm lookin' for Curley," she said. Her voice had a nasal, brittle quality.

I think brittle means rough.

  2. I've also heard brittle used as being easily broken, but i don't think it works in this context.

  3. As weird as it may seem I've heard brittle used in shampoo commercials. It means dull, texture being sharp, easliy broken. Also i have heard my grandmother us it saying "drink milk of you will have brittle bones" meaning weak bones.
