modish

Elements of Literature

p.131

"This modish frenzy, being still more inflamed by the charming account
given of Virginia by the first adventurers, made many found of removing such a
Paradise."

I think that modish means in the current style or popular.

  1. I have heard people say "you dress very modest"

  2. I don't think modest would be used here. Modest is usually used to mean showing regard for the decencies of behavior (dictionary.com). Modish on the other hand is used to mean something current in fashion, or stylish (dictionary.com).
